Spacecrafted gives schools a practical entry point. Students can begin with something as simple as launching a bottle rocket, then progressively take greater ownership of mission design, instrumentation, communications, satellite services and command.
The important outcome is not the rocket. It is what students learn they are capable of doing.
The objective is bigger than increasing enthusiasm for STEM. Britain will need technically confident, collaborative, inventive people able to cross traditional subject boundaries and tackle unfamiliar problems.
Spacecrafted provides the framework rather than claiming ownership of every future challenge. Universities, companies, research groups and other organisations should ultimately be able to contribute Moonshot Missions of their own.
